Circa 1930s, Art Deco.
Handmade black celluloid prison art ring featuring a photo of a young woman.
Throughout the 1930s, prison rings, often called celluloid or "sweetheart" rings, were unique pieces of folk art hand-carved by inmates. Because metal was largely inaccessible behind bars, prisoners repurposed readily available, pliable plastics like toothbrushes, combs, and pen caps.
Ring measures approximately a US size 6 1/4 on mandrel.
In good condition with no noticeable flaws. Please see all photos.
