Founded in 1920 in Irvington, New Jersey, by German-born Wilhelm Forstner, the Forstner Chain Corporation became a premier American manufacturer of high-quality jewelry and, most notably, iconic watch accessories. Famous for its 1939 "Komfit" mesh watch band—worn by NASA astronauts—and "snake" or "gaspipe" chains, the company thrived until closing in 1980.
